We follow the well child checkup schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Newborns are seen within 1-2 days of hospital discharge, then 2 weeks; Infants at 2 mo, 4mo, 6mo, 9 mo. 12 mo 15 mo, 18 mo, 24 mo. Children annually from age 3-18. Older child well child appointment tend to book quickly, especially the late afternoon appointment times, up to 2 mo in advance. We urge you to plan accordingly and prebook your child’s wellness exam
Prenatal/Newborn Visits
We offer prenatal visits prior to the birth of your child. Ideally this visit is done in the last trimester of pregnancy. This provides an opportunity to meet your pediatric provider and visit our office as well as an opportunity to ask questions about newborn care and preparation for your new baby. Once you choose us as your pediatrician, just let your OB provider know and the labor and delivery staff at Summerville Medical Center will notify us of your baby’s arrival. All of our providers share in covering the nursery, so the provider on call for the day will see your baby in the hospital. You may choose whom you see for in office newborn visit. If you deliver at Roper, St Francis or MUSC, the nursery hospitalist will see your baby and instruct you when to schedule your baby’s newborn follow up visit, generally 1-2 days after discharge.
Late Policy
We understand sometimes things beyond your control may cause a late arrival time. Please call ASAP if you are running late. WE will do our best to accommodate you if you arrive within 15 min of scheduled appt time. However, in order to be fair to our patients that arrive on time, we will ask you to reschedule your child’s appointment if your arrival is delayed past the 15 min mark.
Prescription Refills
Please contact our office directly for prescription refills requests during regular office hours. Chronic medication management requires that your child be seen regularly for follow-up visits. It may be necessary to schedule a visit in order to properly manage medication dosage changes. Please see our Controlled Substance Policy regarding specifics for ADHD medications. It ordinarily takes 2-3 business days to process a refill request
Shot Record Request
Please let you provider or medical assistant know that you need a DHEC form at the time of your appointment and we will provide one at the end of your visit. Due to the volume of requests we receive on a daily basis, especially at the start of the school year, Immunization forms for school and daycare should be requested 48 hrs in advance if not requesting during a visit.
Insurance & Billing
We participate with most local insurance plans. Please contact your carrier directly to verify that our providers are in network or if you have specific questions about covered services. Insurance plans vary with what they cover and what charges are patient responsibility. Depending on your coverage, you may be responsible for co-pay, co- insurance, or deductible amounts. It is the patient’s responsibility, not the providers, to know the specifics of your coverage. Health insurance does not relieve the patient/ family of financial responsibility for services received. In order to ensure we have correct information; we will ask you to verify your insurance and contact information at every visit. Please update us of any changes to this information. Please remember that payment is due at the time services are rendered.
